How Blogging Has Made Me a Better Person

When I started blogging, I had one specific goal in mind. I wanted to inspire others, and myself, to make the changes needed to be happy and healthy. All this while daring to answer questions about weight loss that no one else wanted to tell.

So far, I feel like I’ve taken huge steps toward accomplishing my goals. But along this journey, things happened that were completely unexpected. As it turns out, the decision to become a blogger has positively changed my entire life.

So today, I decided to share with you how starting this blog made me a better person. In the end, I hope you all can relate to my experiences and find this post uplifting. Who knows, maybe I’ll inspire some new bloggers along the way!

Blogging Encourages Lifelong Learning

Since I started blogging, I’ve found a new passion for learning. Blogging is incredible for lifelong learning because you get to choose what you want to study and share it with the world. So far, I’ve deepened my knowledge of health and fitness-related topics, which I was already very interested in.

I also got to learn about the many aspects that come with being a blogger. This includes creating a website, promoting content, refining my writing skills, and mastering the dreaded SEO. I got to learn about the many social media platforms as well, which I rarely used before. Who knew that lifelong learning could include taking selfies for Instagram pics?

You Find Friends from All Around the World

If you’re part of the blogosphere long enough, you get to know some amazing people who live all around the world! Bloggers are an incredibly supportive and positive bunch who don’t mind helping out anyone new or struggling. Since I’m someone who’s often shy and finds it hard to make new friends, I’ve been happy to find a place to fit in and thrive.

You learn about other cultures and realize they’re not much different from your own. Blogging is great for busting stereotypes and growing an appreciation for many countries and their traditions. I’ve added many countries to my traveling bucket list for when Covid-19 is no longer an issue.

Also, you start to make friends with the other bloggers who support you along your blogging path. I’ve made connections all over the planet, including Moksha in India, Shelly in South Africa, or Ashley, who lives on the other side of our great country, Canada.

Blogging Helps You Reach for Your Goals

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know blogging gave me the push I needed to make a positive life change. I used to spend my spare time binge eating, playing video games, and watching Netflix. Now I spend it learning about fitness, writing, and engaging in conversations online. This shift in lifestyle has had a huge impact on my overall health.

Writing and journaling have also improved how I make decisions and set goals. I’ve learned to stop being a perfectionist and finally stop binge eating and dieting. Now, my weight is naturally coming down without food restrictions. I blame my success on everything I learned about eating disorders and managing thoughts about food and health.

Not to mention, having blogging friends gives you that push you need to reach for your goals. It’s wonderful to have a group of supportive people to encourage you every time you write about personal goals and setbacks.

It Taught Me How to Be a Nicer Person

Over the past 10 months of blogging, I’ve developed a better tolerance for different opinions. Following other bloggers allows you to see the world from other perspectives. You learn that everyone has their own perception of the world, even though it’s the same place. This has taught me how to be a nicer person when my opinion is different from someone else’s.

Since I work in a hangar full of condescending personalities (I fix aircraft for a living), I’ve heard every stereotype in the book. I always wondered if working in that environment would make me closed-minded as well. Blogging has introduced me to people from all walks of life and has given me the knowledge I need to stay compassionate.

In Conclusion

So far, blogging has had a lasting, positive impact on my life. If I hadn’t started this blog back in September, I’m sure that I’d still be chasing my tail with weight loss and eating disorders. I would still be sitting in front of the TV, hoping to find the motivation I needed to change.

I’m not afraid to admit the knowledge I gained about myself while blogging has been invaluable and life-changing. I feel as though my eyes have been opened for the first time.

If you want to learn how to be a nicer person, meet people from all around the world, and reach for your goals, blogging is a great way to start. This is the experience I’ve had with it, at least. I truly hope that other bloggers have had found the same.

Now over to my other bloggers! Have you had a similar experience since starting your blog? Share your stories in the comments!

I’m so glad you’ve found blogging so helpful, Ang. Like you, one of the aspects I like most is getting to talk with people all over the world. I’ve made friendships here in the blogosphere that are closer than with some of the people I actually see in person. As you said, bloggers seem to be a really supportive bunch in general, and it’s nice to be surrounded by people who are so kind, helpful, and forward-looking.

  4. I’ve benefited from blogging in many of the same ways. I love how it opens up so many possibilities for learning. And this Canadian🇨🇦 hermit likes being able to connect with people online.

  5. Ang, this is very well said. I would add you have impressed more than me with your helpful attitude and self-experienced advice and advice of others you found useful. Keep on doing what you are doing. That is a key reason well-intended bloggers are stopping by for a visit. Keith

Blogging has benefited me too in almost all the ways you mentioned. I was at a bad place mentally when I started blogging earlier this year and it has helped me have something to look forward to everyday.

Keep up with the good work!❤

I’ve read some on your blog before, but not sure I ever introduced myself. I tend to have deplorable social skills..
