Quick Takeaway Oatmeal Bowls to Grab in the Morning

If you’re like me, you think instant oatmeal is pretty gross. The texture is wrong, and unless you get the plain packets, they’re loaded with sugar. Making your own oatmeal bowls to enjoy throughout the day is a healthier, more delicious option.

I’m always looking for quick, healthy lunch ideas. Today, I’m sharing my three best recipes for takeaway oatmeal bowls.

Oatmeal Bowls Ingredient List:

In reality, what you choose to put in your oatmeal bowls is completely up to you. This is one recipe you can’t mess up. You can add whatever you want to it, whether it be dried, frozen, or fresh. Here are a few great ideas for oatmeal bowls that I put together:

Apple Cinnamon Pie Oatmeal:

  • 3/4 cup of quick or minute oats
  • 1 1/4 cups of cold water
  • 1/3 cup diced apple
  • 1 Tbsp. agave or honey
  • 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon

Cranberry, Pumpkin Seeds and Protein Oatmeal:

  • 3/4 cup of quick or minute oats
  • 1 1/4 cups of cold water
  • 2 Tbsp. dried cranberries
  • 1 Tbsp. pumpkin seeds
  • 1 Tbsp. peanut butter (or other nut butter)

Blueberry Crumble Oatmeal:

  • 3/4 cup of quick or minute oats
  • 1 1/4 cups of cold water
  • 1/3 cup blueberries
  • 1 Tbsp. agave or honey
  • 1/4 cup granola (of your choice)
  • 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon

Oatmeal Bowls Instructions:

  • Firstly, scoop the oatmeal into a takeaway container and throw your ingredients on top.
  • Then, add COLD water to the oatmeal. Warm or hot water will make the oatmeal overflow. You’ve been warned.
  • There’s no need to stir the water and oats.
  • Lastly, microwave for 1 1/2 minutes uncovered. Stir the mixture and garnish however you please.

If the instructions on your bag of oats are different from what I have written here, please follow them instead. Each brand of oatmeal will probably have different cooking times and amounts of water to be added. Also, my oats suggested that I add 1 tsp of salt, which you can do if you like.

As for meal prepping, you can prepare the dry ingredients for your oatmeal bowls well in advance. My bag of oatmeal has a best before date that’s over a year from now. Once you add the fresh ingredients, your bowls will be fine for a few days but have to stay in the fridge.

Fresh ingredients can be kept separate until the oatmeal is cooked and mixed in after. Throwing them on all at once saves dishes but may make your granola less crunchy. Also, you risk having your diced apples go brownish if you leave them for a while before cooking your oatmeal. Either way, the oatmeal will still be delicious.

Mini Oatmeal Bowls

Want your oatmeal as a side dish rather than the main course? Take the recipe and cut it in half, then put it in a smaller bowl. The directions are still the same, no matter what size your portion is.

The Amazing Benefits of Oatmeal

In short, the health benefits of oatmeal are almost endless. Oats are whole grains and are a great source of fiber and protein. They’re very dense in nutrients, loaded with iron, magnesium, manganese, zinc, and B vitamins. Also, they’re gluten-free, as long as they’re not processed in a factory where they can be contaminated by gluten from other grains.

Oats are also high in antioxidants, which can lower blood pressure and prevent cell damage. They can lower bad cholesterol and increase fullness, making you less likely to overeat. Once you learn the benefits of oatmeal, it can be easily said that oats are a superfood.

  1. I love these recipes! I used to hate oats but discovered overnight oats and fell in love with oats. They are so perfect to carry for lunch and so versatile – a few ingredients here and there – and you have a whole new flavour. I haven’t tried cooking the oats but I’m guessing it would have lower calories since you use water instead of milk. Definitely going to try it your way this week.

  2. Have you ever tried any oatmeal with meats? Not a vegan or even vegetarian so just wondering if you have ever experimented. ☺️

    1. I don’t call myself a vegetarian but I don’t like meat so I don’t eat it. I’ve never had savory flavored oatmeal before though. It might be interesting to try

  4. Ang, oatmeal is a lot like grits. It is what you put in it that makes the difference. But, it is such a comfort food on a cold morning. Keith

  5. Oats are a miracle food and your post will help everyone to enjoy them more often.
