Banana “Nice” Cream You Need to Try

Share This Post:

With summer just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start looking for cool, refreshing recipes to enjoy in the sun. Looking for a healthy vegan dessert to try out? Today I’ll be sharing an easy and nutritious alternative to ice cream. This banana “nice” cream has the taste and texture of traditional ice cream. Since it’s not loaded with sugar and dairy, you’re looking at the perfect summer treat!

What is “Nice” Cream?

“Nice” cream is just a funny name given to a homemade, sorbet-like dessert made with simple ingredients. In reality, this healthy vegan dessert is made mostly of frozen bananas that have been blended to an ice cream-like consistency. Because of the simple ingredients, it’s great for vegan diets and anyone with a dairy allergy or intolerance.

Compared to traditional ice cream, “nice” cream has less sugar and more nutrition and fiber. Not to mention it only needs a few ingredients and can be made easily at home. A bowlful gives you a tasty frozen treat as well as a serving of fruit. Also, it’s not too expensive to make, so remember to stock up on bananas whenever you can.

Vegan Banana “Nice” Cream Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 bananas (or 2.5 cups of frozen sliced bananas)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup oat milk (or milk of your choice)
  • 3 Tbsp. agave

Instructions:

  • Slice up the bananas into 1/4″ pieces.
  • Place the slices flat on a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Put them in the freezer overnight, or for 2 hours minimum.
  • Take out the frozen banana slices and put them into a food processor with the oat milk, agave, and vanilla extract. Pulse the mixture a few times until the bananas are crushed up.
  • Blend in the food processor for 3-4 minutes until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Scoop the mixture into a container with a lid or a bread pan. If using a bread pan, cover over the “nice” cream with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • Freeze until firm, about 2-4 hours.
  • All set! Scoop out the “nice” cream and eat it like normal ice cream.

“Nice” cream can be kept in the freezer for up to a month in a sealed container. To make cleaning the pan easier, line it with parchment paper before pouring the “nice” cream in. Also, “nice” cream can be eaten without freezing, with a consistency more like soft serve. However you choose to eat it, it’s still delicious!

Banana “Nice” Cream Blender Instructions:

Before I started making this recipe, I never owned a food processor. So, I figured a blender-only set of instructions would be appreciated. It’s not easy using a blender to make “nice” cream, but it’s still possible. If your blender has a hard time with the mixture, start the bananas in a small food chopper to make them easier.

  • Slice up the bananas into 1/8″-1/4″ pieces.
  • Place the slices flat on a baking pan lined with parchment paper then put them in the freezer for 2 hours minimum.
  • Take out the frozen banana slices and put them into a blender with the oat milk, agave, and vanilla extract. Pulse the mixture a few times until the bananas are crushed up.
  • Scrape the sides of the blender, then blend for 1 minute. Repeat until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Scoop the mixture into a bread pan or a container with a lid. If using a bread pan, cover over the “nice” cream with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • Freeze until firm, about 2-4 hours.
  • Scoop out the “nice” cream and eat it like normal ice cream.

How You Can Upgrade Your “Nice” Cream

It’s pretty easy to substitute ingredients in this recipe if you’re missing something. Don’t have agave? Try using maple syrup or honey if you’re a non-vegan. If you don’t have oat milk, switch it to almond or cashew milk. Also, the vanilla can be left out if you can’t find any at home.

If you’re looking to experiment with different flavors, add small amounts at a time. Fully blend the mixture before adding more. If you’re feeling adventurous, add your favorite protein powder to the mix. Try adding peanut butter, or throw in some carob chips after blending. There are so many great options, so here are my two favorite upgrades:

Banana Chocolate “Nice” Cream

Of all the “nice” cream flavors I made up, banana chocolate “nice” cream is my favorite. How do you make banana chocolate “nice” cream? Just add 2 Tbsp of cocoa to the mixture before blending. Then if you feel like going wild, you can sprinkle some chocolate chips on top!

Raspberry “Nice” Cream

For more of a sorbet style “nice” cream, throw 1/4 cup of raspberries, frozen or fresh, into the banana mixture. You don’t need much, since raspberries add a lot of flavor in small amounts. Your “nice” cream will turn out fruity and refreshing.

A Healthy Vegan Dessert to Try

There you have it, a refreshing and healthy treat to enjoy on hot summer days. Or whenever, because who would ever let a cold and rainy day stop them from enjoying ice cream? Not me! Ice cream’s delicious any time of the year. Go on and give it a try, you’ll love it! Also, check out my other healthy recipes for more ideas.

  2. I guess we both have many coincidences…I was eating chocolate ice-cream I made few minutes back.
I’ll definitely try out this one next time! <3
    BANANASSS!!! <3

  3. Yummm! I did try this once last year (with mangos) but was too impatient to cool it after blending it and it ate it like a semi-pudding sort of a thing. 😀
Going to try making it again with peanut butter this time. 😀

    1. It’s so hard to wait for it to freeze! I’ve never made it with peanut butter yet, but I’m sure it’ll be delicious!
