Light Bulb Inspiration for My Blog

How I Found the Inspiration to Create My Blog

When 2020 began, I thought blogging was for a very specific person. I would always imagine a woman in her 40s sitting in her pajamas and fuzzy slippers. She would be typing her blog entry on the computer while sipping a cup of tea. Since then, I’ve become that person, without the fuzzy slippers of course. How did this end up happening? Where did I find my blogging inspiration?

An Endless Cycle

Every day of my life, as far back as I remember, I’ve been obsessed with my weight. I think about it day and night. I poke at myself in front of mirrors. Endlessly create plans to restrict my eating to the point where I feel like I’m torturing myself.

Then, once I’ve had enough, I’ll come up with an excuse to quit and binge eat. Usually, I go through several of these rounds a year. Over and over, each time promising I’ll stick to it for once.

Then, in Spring 2020, Covid-19 started spreading across North America. Travel restrictions put my job in aviation on hold for 3 months. Government subsidies were still covering most of my wages, so I was getting by. I saw this time off as a blessing and focused on using it to figure out my eating disorder.

Journaling to Find Clarity

I began journaling every day to track my weight loss progress, everyday activities, and thoughts. Journaling was new to me, and I took to it quickly to work through the feelings I had experienced that day. Once I began typing, it was hard to stop. I was able to change my own mind on some of the beliefs I had about people and life, simply by writing them out on a computer screen.

I also became blatantly aware of how much anxiety I have because of my body. Many of my entries reverted back to talking about how my body will look after the weight is lost. I have stretch marks, scars, and cellulite which I’m fearful will look worse after weight loss.

Here is an example from one of my journals:

I’ve taken photos of everything I’ve imagined I’ll see a difference in, including my face, hands, and feet. I also have stretch marks along my inner thigh and seemingly loose skin there too which I’d like to see the effects of the weight loss on. The only way I’ll know is to go through with it. I need to be patient.

Weight Loss Blog Inspiration

The decision to start a blog to document my own weight loss journey came in August after I had returned to work. I was still journaling daily, and still had many questions on the impact of weight loss on cellulite, loose skin, and stretch marks. Before and after photos are easy to find online, but never showed the raw details I wanted to know.

I decided, if no one else wants to show it, then I will. I’ll put it all out there for people to see, and answer all these embarrassing questions. For myself and everyone else. I started a site, wrote my first blog post, created a Facebook page, and went from there.

What did I find through all of this? Aside from learning enough about websites, writing, and SEO to fry my brain, I found inspiration. I’m excited to write for my weight loss blog and make progress in my fitness goals. I haven’t binged since I started this, because I feel like I’m letting down the blog, not just myself.

Also, I’ve learned so much about binge eating disorder that I’ve mastered a few skills for eating properly. Now I eat what I want with no restriction. I choose to eat healthy 90% of the time and still lose weight, without ever feeling deprived or following some fad diet. I’ve found a way of eating which is completely sustainable.

Moving Forward with My Blog

Now that I’ve started my weight loss blog, blogging inspiration seems to be flowing endlessly. I’m finding ideas for new blog posts everywhere, and it shows no signs of stopping.

I hope that my writing will be useful and inspiring to my readers. If I can help at least one of you, this will all be worth it. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll be able to help myself too!

  1. I’m also totally that woman, and I’ve got the slippers on my feet right now! I had no idea going into blogging what a great learning experience it was going to be, but hearing about so many people’s experiences has been truly amazing.

    1. Maybe I should get some fuzzy slippers too haha. I’ve definitely learned so much with this! I never knew it would be so rewarding.

    1. Oh yeah! Business, websites, topics I write about. I’ve only been at this for 2 months but I’ve learned so much.

  2. A Big Girl in a Big City

You go girl! Blogging is great, you inspire others but you help yourself too 🙂

    1. Crustless quiches, cottage cheese with berries and homemade granola bars. I make a lot of this myself, because they just end up so much better homemade 🙂

  3. I know, I started blogging because I wanted to learn about business. I feel when we write about something, we tend to learn and retain more about it. Blogging is turning out to be pretty useful!
